Mt Buller has had a long standing ‘sister resort’ relationship with Madarao, Japan – so the team at Kuma Lodge is also offering 20% off accommodation for any Mt Buller Season Pass holders.
Deep powder or family fun? You can have both in Madarao!
Madarao is one of the easiest Japanese ski resorts to access – only a short 2 hour trip via bullet train from Tokyo to the ski fields. It is popular with those in the know for the deep powder, steep bowls near the summit and the most tree runs of any ski resort in Japan!
Mt Madarao offers dual ski resort access with the neighbouring Tangram Ski Circus to access more terrain. Including Tangram – the mountain has a combined 21 modern chairlifts and 27 official on-piste runs.
The mountain has flown under the radar of Western snow tourists so the slopes are uncrowded and family friendly. With two children’s snow parks, gentle beginner slopes near the base and a constant supply of soft snow – Madarao is perfect for children to get into snow sports or take their skills to the next level.
At Madarao an adult 5 day pass works out to be only about $26 AUD per day, children aged 5-13 are about $12 AUD per day and children under 5 are free. For Buller Season Pass holders – the lift tickets are even cheaper!

How do I claim my Mt Buller Season Pass discounts?
To organise your discounted lift tickets in Madarao you will need to get a letter from Mt Buller and remember to take your Buller Season Pass to Madarao. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to request a letter from the Buller team.
Once in Madarao take a printed copy of your letter and your season pass to the information centre located at the top of the beginner ski runs. They will approve your request and give you a three day lift pass for free, and if you want extra days you can purchase them at a discounted rate.
To get a 20% discount on accommodation at Kuma Lodge – please email Scott at email@example.com.
What are the accommodation options for Kuma Lodge?
Kuma has nine rooms and can host 21 guests at a time so it is the perfect location for groups of friends or large family holidays. We are located literally right next to the beginner ski runs at Madarao and only a few minutes walk back to the village centre. Information about the lodge is available here, details on the rooms available here – and you can book online or check availability here.
Please keep in mind that January books up quickly as it is school holidays and peak powder season! December is also excellent and much quieter, perfect for a White Christmas family holiday! February is reliable for very deep powder and conditions into March are great with plenty of bluebird days and milder weather.
